Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensor (TPMS) for Tesla: A Hassle-Free Guide

Maintaining proper tire pressure ensures a safe and comfortable driving experience. Tesla vehicles, known for their innovation and advanced features, incorporate a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) to provide real-time information about tire pressure. In this article, we will explore the significance of TPMS for Tesla cars and guide you through the process of installation, compatibility, and resetting the TPMS sensors.

Understanding TPMS for Tesla:

Tesla has employed two types of TPMS sensors: the RF 433MHz type and the BLE Bluetooth type. Identifying which type your Tesla vehicle requires before purchasing a TPMS sensor is essential. To simplify things, Carbone Prestige offers a TPMS sensor that is ready for action right out of the box, requiring no programming or calibration. Just install the TPMS and drive, and your Tesla will automatically recognize and sync to the sensor. It's as easy as that!

Compatibility and Tesla Models:

To determine the compatibility of the TPMS sensor, we need to consider the Tesla model and its introduction date.

The following Tesla models utilize the Bluetooth TPMS:

Tesla Model 3 (Built Oct 2020-Present)

Tesla Model Y (All Model Y since introduction in Oct 2020-Present)

Tesla Model X / X Plaid (Refreshed Model, Oct 2021-Present)

Tesla Model S / S Plaid (Refreshed Model, Jun 2021-Present)

The Carbone Prestige’s Bluetooth TPMS is an ideal choice for these models. It features a durable black anodized aluminum valve stem and retaining nut, operates on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) 2.4 GHz frequency, and has a pressure range of up to 135psi. The TPMS sensors are sold as a set of four, making it convenient to replace all sensors simultaneously.

Resetting Your Tesla's TPMS:

Resetting the TPMS sensors in your Tesla is a straightforward process.

Follow these steps to reset your Tesla's TPMS sensors:

  • Turn on the touchscreen display.
  • From the touchscreen, navigate to Controls > Settings > Service & Reset > Tire Pressure Monitor > Reset Sensors.
  • Select the appropriate wheel size when prompted. Choosing the incorrect wheel size may lead to false tire pressure warnings.
  • After selecting the wheel size, exit the vehicle and ensure all doors and the rear trunk are closed. Wait for the touchscreen to go black.
  • Re-enter the vehicle and verify that the correct wheel size is selected before pressing the "Reset" button.

Tips for Successful TPMS Reset:

To view TPMS information and check if sensors are unknown, press and hold one of the scroll wheels and select "Car Status" from the options. Unknown sensors will be displayed as "--".

During a road test, auto-learning for TPMS sensors initiates when the vehicle exceeds 40 km/h (25 mph). This process can take up to 20 minutes.

Repeat the reset procedure if the "Tire Pressure System Needs Service" warning persists after auto-learning. If the issue persists after five minutes of driving at 40 km/h (25 mph), contact Tesla for assistance.:
